The challenge

Crest Parking and Access Control is a South African company that designs, installs and supports parking, access and site security systems, from shopping malls and office parks to hospitals, airports and residential estates. On a parking site, everything happens at the lane: a camera reads a plate, a boom opens, a ticket starts, money changes hands. When a camera misreads, a lane goes quiet or a payment is disputed, revenue leaks and queues build, and nobody sees it until the month's numbers come in. Crest needed one platform where operators see every lane, every read and every rand as it happens, and can act before a small fault becomes a bad day.

The solution

We designed and built the Crest Platform: a control room for parking and access operations. Plate reads arrive with a confidence score and are auto-accepted, sent to an operator or rejected against thresholds each site tunes for itself. Operators run a live shift: a verification queue, escalations, temporary access for visitors and contractors, and every session's ticket, duration and payment status in one view. Lane health watches each lane against its own normal, hour by hour, so a quiet camera, a drifted clock or a dark lane is flagged now rather than discovered in next month's figures. And the money is engineered to reconcile: payments, refunds, accruals and estimates are kept strictly apart, so the reports always say what actually happened.

In their words

Robert van Niekerk
“Before the platform, a problem on a lane showed up in the month-end numbers. Now the control room sees it as it happens. Handee understood parking operations quickly, and built something our operators actually want to use.”

What we built

The control room, piece by piece

Everything an operator needs to run the shift, and everything an owner needs to trust the numbers.

  • 01

    ANPR verification

Reads above the auto-accept confidence open the boom on their own; between the thresholds a person decides. An advisory second-opinion model queues suspected misreads for review.

  • 02

    A live control room

Recognition accuracy against target, queue pressure, entries against exits and the tickets that need a person, in one view.

  • 03

    Lane health

Each lane is watched against its own normal, hour by hour, so a quiet camera or a drifted clock is flagged now, not found in next month's figures.

  • 04

    Access with an expiry date

Visitors, contractors and overnight maintenance are watched and expire on time, rather than becoming a hole in the fence.

  • 05

    Money that reconciles

Payments, refunds, accruals and estimates are kept strictly apart, and every financial movement sits in an append-only log.

  • 06

    Signal Glass

One design system behind every screen: a single signal blue for every active signal, deep ink for operational text, and verdict colours that keep their meaning everywhere.

In a nutshell

The Crest Platform runs parking and access as one system: reads verified against tunable thresholds, a live control room for the shift, lane health that catches faults as they start, and reporting where payments, refunds and estimates are never mixed, so the numbers can be trusted all the way to the bank. Every site keeps its own versioned settings, from entry expiry and paid-exit grace to ANPR thresholds, so a change is an explicit, auditable act rather than a quiet edit. The platform was designed and built end to end for Crest Parking and Access Control .

The platform was designed and built end to end for Crest Parking and Access Control.
